Watch back: Partin webinar on getting more out of event fundraising
Laura Joe - de Bruine

How do you make sure an event isn't just enjoyable and worthwhile, but also genuinely contributes to more engagement and donations? That was the question behind the webinar Getting more out of event fundraising, organised by Partin in collaboration with Your Digital Home and Mundo Sales. During this webinar, Raymon Brand of Mundo Sales and Laura Joe – de Bruine of Your Digital Home shared practical tips on starting conversations with potential donors and making your event visible online.
Partin wrote a great recap of it, which you can read here: Starting the conversation with potential donors using your personal 'why'
Event fundraising: start with your personal story
An important theme during the webinar was the power of your personal why. Why does this work touch you? Why do you find it important that this project exists? And why do you want others to join in?
It's precisely that personal story that makes fundraising human. People don't just give to a project. They give because they're moved by a story, an encounter, or a clear call to action.
That's why it's important to be able to explain briefly and powerfully why you do what you do. Not too complicated. Not too long. But real, personal and clear.
Dare to have the conversation
Many non-profits organise wonderful activities, such as charity dinners, markets, music nights or sponsored events. Yet it can still feel daunting to actively talk to people about support or donations during such an event.
But that's exactly where a lot of opportunity lies.
During an event, people are already engaged. They're present, curious, or feel connected to the cause. That's a good moment to start the conversation. Not pushy, but clear.
Explain why you're there. Briefly explain what's needed. And then dare to ask the question too: will you help us?
Make donating easy
Another important point is that donating should be as simple as possible. If someone is moved by your story, you don't want them to have to search for an account number, QR code or donation page.
So make sure everything is ready. Think of a clear QR code, a good donation page, a short explanation and possibly different options for a one-off or recurring gift.
The easier you make it, the smaller the barrier to taking action right away.
Don't forget online promotion
During the webinar, Laura shared practical tips on the online visibility around events. Because a good event doesn't just start on the day itself.
You build trust well in advance. You show why the event is organised, who's involved, and where the proceeds are going.
There are also opportunities during and after the event. Share photos, short updates and stories. Thank people publicly. Show what their involvement makes possible. And don't forget to stay in touch with visitors, donors and interested people afterwards.
Common mistakes in event fundraising
In event preparation, we often see the same things come back. Think of too little planning, unclear messaging, no recognisable brand identity, an outdated website, or a donate button that's hard to find.
Follow-up after an event is also often forgotten. While that's exactly where a lot of value lies.
People who attended have already shown interest. Thank them personally, share what the event achieved, and invite them to stay involved.
Event fundraising is about relationships
An event is more than a one-off action. It's a chance to bring people closer to your mission.
That requires a combination of personal contact, clear communication and good online follow-up. When those three come together, an event becomes not just a moment of connection, but also a step towards lasting engagement.
